United Way Volunteers sell Rotary
                French Fries at County Fair

United Way of Garrett County volunteers partnered with the Rotary Club of Oakland to man the Rotary Club French Fry Booth at the Garrett County Fair.  United Way board members and volunteers provided much of the additional labor that is needed at the booth including washing potatoes, slicing the fresh french fries and selling them at the windows.  The Rotary Club presented the United Way of Garrett County with a check for $500 at their appreciation picnic held August 19th in Oakland's Rotary Park.

Tom Myers, United Way board member, reported that three windows were manned on Saturday with substantial lines in front of each window.  He estimated that the Rotary booth was selling 1,800 lbs. of french fries each day and a record for sales was set on Saturday.  Tom summed up his sentiments this way: “What a great chance we had to help our community and see lots of friends!”
