3rd Annual Day of Caring and Sharing Planned

The Garrett County United Way has scheduled the Third Annual Garrett County
Day of Caring and Sharing for Saturday, October 22, 2005.   The event will correspond to the National Make a Difference Day that is sponsored by USA Weekend.   The Day of Caring and sharing is an opportunity for neighbors to help neighbors by participating in projects that benefit the community.   The event will start at 9:00 AM and end around 3:30 PM.   Many participating United Way agencies will have projects available where volunteers can assist by providing "sweat and elbow grease" to their favorite projects.   Other United Way agencies will provide labor in the form of volunteers.    A spokesperson for United Way stated "our dream is for every able person in Garrett County to come out and volunteer on that day.   It truly is an opportunity to recognize both agencies and volunteers."

At this time the planning committee hopes that projects will be available at various locations around the County to make it easier for volunteers to participate.   Currently United Way agencies that have a physical presence in the County are identifying projects that will range from landscaping at agencies like Salem Children's Trust and Mountain Glade Adult Day Care Center to finishing work in a Habitat for Humanity house.   Other agencies like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will provide their participants and volunteers as the laborers.
