The United Way of Garrett County recently awarded First
United Bank & Trust with a plaque of gratitude for their
tremendous support. Since United Way’s
establishment in 1999, First United and its employees
have donated a great deal of time and funding to this
non-profit organization.
United Way of Garrett County is a charitable institution
that works through 18 local nonprofit organizations to
improve the quality of life for Garrett County citizens.
United Way’s primary means of funding these
organizations are donations from businesses, payroll
deductions and private donations.
First United gathers funds partially by employee
matching. Many of the Bank’s employees donate
money from their paychecks to United Way. First
United then matches this donation. Through this
avenue, First United Bank & Trust and its employees
donated almost $6,500 last year alone. In addition
to donating funds, some of First United’s employees
donate their time by volunteering with the United Way.
They have been involved in the Day of Caring and sharing
as well as participated in the lunch buddy program.
First United Bank & Trust also holds an Annual Charity
Golf Tournament, with all proceeds going to the United
Way of Garrett County. This year marked the
tournament’s 16th year of operation.
Thus far, the 2004 Golf Tournament has raised $17,791
for the United Way, which is a record donation.
