Volunteers for affiliated United Way agencies will be
competing for tips at United Way’s Food, Foolishness and
Fun dinner on April 1st. The event is being
held at St. Peter’s Parish Hall in Oakland from 5:00 to
8:00 p.m. and will feature volunteers dressed in costume
serving pasta dinners in the hope of getting tips for
their favorite charities. Ernie Gregg a United Way
volunteer stated that “while the competition for tips is
all in good fun we are expecting to see some pretty
entertaining waiters and waitresses. Hopefully they
will keep it civilized.” The dinner will feature pasta
dishes with choices of special sauces, side dishes and
desserts from some of Garrett
County’s
finest restaurants. John MacGowan, one of the event
planners said he has really been pleased with the way Garrett County
restaurants and grocers are jumping in to support the
event. Not only will they be donating food and supplies
we even have restaurants who have volunteered to send
staff to help cook and assist with serving.”
Volunteer servers will
be representing Garrett County Community Action, Big
Brothers and Big Sisters, Mountain Glade Adult Day Care,
Boy Scouts (Potomac Council), Girl Scouts (Black Diamond
