Final preparations are
being made for Food, Foolishness and Fun. Pasta,
sauces, breads, salads and deserts are being prepared by
some of Garrett County’s finest restaurants for the
April first festivities at St. Peter’s parish hall in
Oakland. The community wide fund raiser will benefit
Garrett County United Way and its affiliate agencies.
“The food will be phenomenal” reported Gloria MacGowan,
a United Way volunteer who has been collecting donated
food, drinks, and restaurant supplies from community
restaurants and grocers. “We are really pleased with
the donations we are receiving. The pasta is being
prepared by Brenda McDonnell and her staff, and the
sauces will come from various restaurants. We are also
looking forward to having a selection of many of the
specialty deserts from area restaurants.” There will
also be an all-star cast assisting with the event.
Elaine McDonald, realtor and a well known former
restauranter will be a hostess for the event, while
Wendy Friend of the Four Seasons at the Will’O theWisp
will be managing the dining room.
Many of the servers
will be wearing costumes donated from Our Town Theatre.
The costumed volunteers will be competing for tips for
their favorite agency. United Way volunteer Bob Stephens
said “The costumes are really interesting range from
geisha girls to mountain men and everything in between.
I think everyone who comes to the event will have fun
seeing some of the communities most respected members
costumed and hamming it up for tips.”
Volunteer servers will
be representing Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Mountain
Glade Adult Day Care, Boy Scouts (Potomac Council), Girl
Scouts (Black Diamond Council), Garrett County Habitat
for Humanity, Western Potomac Chapter of American Red
Cross, Garrett County Community Action, Salem Children’s
Trust, Mountain Laurel Medical Center and the Dove
Center.
United Way agencies are
selling tickets. Tickets are available at the door and
from Brenda’s Pizzeria, Gregg’s Pharmacy, and Four
Seasons Restaurant – Will O’ the Wisp, and the Oakland
Office of First United National Bank. Ticket prices
are $15.00 for adults, $7.00 for children and pre-schoolers
are free. All proceeds will go to Garrett County United
Way Charities.
